Established in Dalbeattie in June 1960 by Millar and Olive McCowan, M McCowan & Son has a long and proud tradition of offering quality goods at competitive prices backed up by unrivalled customer service. 

 

And despite a number of changes and innovations to the business since, our commitment to our customers has consistently remained a hallmark of the business ever since. 

 

Two years after the Dalbeattie shop opened its doors, a second outlet was opened in Castle Douglas and over the years the stock was widened to include pet supplies and electricals. 

 

The Business was run up until a few year ago by son Eric and his late wife Frances who expanded on their product range. Today the business remains very much in family hand with Eric and daughter Gillian. 

 

Eric in his younger days was a keen shooter and shot for Scotland on five occasions in the sporting international section so it’s not surprising that McCowan and Son can order in a wide range of air guns (as long as you have the new certificate), pellets and, reflecting the rural nature of the area, shotguns and cartridges.

 

Eric is also a member of the Dalbeattie Angling Association and the Dalbeattie and District Sea Angling Club.
